BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
JULY 26, 2006
MAINE GENERAL MEDICAL CENTER
WATERVILLE, MAINE
Meeting called to order by Steve at 1803.
Members present: Steve Enking, Karen Lane, David Boyer, Laura King, Shirley Belanger, Amanda Albee and Shelley Kates-Wilson
Members Excused: Keith Siegel and Jack Higgins
Secretary’s Report: May 18, 2006 minutes read and accepted after revisions made. Steve motioned to accept. Shelly second.
Treasurer’s Report: Shelly reported the balance as of 07/24/06 is $18,965.68. Shirley motioned to accept. Karen second. Shelly distributed copies of the MSRC Conference 2006 financial report. She reported she is in the process of working with Drager for reimbursement of the $500.00 charge for the telecast. The board discussed ways to increase profits for future conferences. Plan: Shirley will research how other state societies charge vendor table fees.
Delegate’s Report: Shirley reported on her attendance to the AARC House of Delegate’s meeting held in conjunction with the Summer Forum in Phoenix, Arizona. Keith’s Delegate’s Report was distributed. At the meeting two resolutions were discussed and acted upon. Resolution # 44-06-01 which requests the AARC to develop an on-line speaker’s bureau for use by state affiliates to assist in the preparation of local educational programs was unanimously passed by the HOD. Resolution # 22-06-02 which requests the AARC develop in conjunction with the NAEMSP (National Association of EMS Physicians) a standardized curriculum for training paramedics in the safe and appropriate use of ventilators for patients outside the hospital environment was passed and forwarded to the AARC Board of Directors.
Shirley reported there was a strong focus on AARC memberships. The MSRC set a goal to obtain 10 new memberships. She also reported the AARC emphasized state affiliate website content. It was suggested updates be completed weekly, a link be provided for AARC membership and information be added to the homepage about joining the AARC. Steve distributed a list of AARC membership benefits to incorporate. The next delegates’ meeting is scheduled for December 9th and 10th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Plan: Shirley and Keith will contact hospitals throughout Maine to collaborate with respiratory department managers to promote AARC memberships to their employees. Amanda will incorporate a link to the AARC membership application and include AARC benefits to the homepage.
Bylaws: Keith reported by phone the MSRC bylaws have been approved by AARC.
Plan: Steve will make copies of the new bylaws and send them to AARC state members to be voted on at the same time Ballots are sent.
PACT Report: No report submitted.
Lobstergram: Shirley reported on a lack of articles for publication. The board discussed different ways in increase article submission. The deadline for articles was extended to the first week of August. Plan: Shirley will compose and mail it to members in mid August. Article Plan: Laura - MSRC educational committee, Dave- Stevens Memorial Hospital, Shelly – CMMC and Steve offered to contact some hospitals requesting articles.
Website: Amanda distributed results from the Online Communication survey at the MSRC Conference. The board approved the addition of adding links to free CEU’s approved by the AARC to the website. The board discussed the possibility of adding out-of-state hospitals in our help wanted section; it was deemed further discussion is needed. Steve has been contacted by a company that offers CEU courses over the Internet. They would like to have a link added on our website. In return, the MSRC would receive $1.00 for each course that a Maine state licensed RCP signs up for. Steve will contact the California Society for input since they were used as a reference. Steve will report back next meeting. Plan: Amanda will add the survey results and a mailing list signup to the website, email the current mailing list after page updates, compose separate mailing list for members who wish to receive the Lobstergram via email for Shirley, add the request for free CEU’s approved by the AARC to the MSRC CEU notification form to be sent to managers. Shelly will contact the accountant regarding financial legalities relating to website profit.
Educational Committee: Laura reported the annual MSRC conference will be on the 16th and 17th of May in 2007 at the Spruce Point Inn, Boothbay Harbor. The annual Golf Tournament has been scheduled for the 15th of May. She also reported the next Educational Committee meeting is October 4, 2006.
ALA: No report submitted.
Old Business: Karen distributed copies of the travel and reimbursement policy for review. Shelly requested that submitted receipts be taped to a piece of paper for filing purposes. Karen discussed and distributed an article on pandemic flu preparation. She explained preparation is done by individual counties in Maine by the County Emergency Management Association. She also reported on an upcoming state conference in Augusta, September 20, 2006. Plan: Karen will compose final copy of travel and reimbursement policy for approval next meeting and email Amanda information on the conference to be posted on the website.
Next Meeting: September 13, 2006 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta at 1800.
